Advances in research on structural strength of wind turbine blades in engineering thermophysics

Through the full-scale structural failure test of large-scale wind turbine blade, the structural response of the blade under the limit load condition can be obtained, which provides an important basis for deep understanding of the nonlinear coupling mechanism of the thick-wall plate shell structure and fiber composite material in the cross-scale mechanics. In response to this international academic hot spot, researchers at the National Energy Wind Blade Research & Development (Experimental) Center of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, through careful experimental design and detailed numerical calculations, have obtained large-scale macroscopic structural damage and microscopic composite destruction. The cross-scale quantitative correlation of features reveals a variety of nonlinear mechanical phenomena of large-scale wind turbine blade under the condition of ultimate load: local buckling, three-dimensional stress and failure mode coupling mechanism; based on this understanding, how to improve the structural strength of large-scale blade is proposed. Useful ways.

The research results were published in Wind Energy Energy's academic journal, Wind Energy. The research work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51405468) and the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
