New national standard accelerates replacement of sanitary ware

The new national standard of "Water-saving sanitary ware" issued by the National Standards Committee put forward new requirements for the water-saving performance of sanitary products. Reflected from the market, consumers are very welcome to water-saving sanitary products, but because the country has not forced companies to implement water-saving certification, many products are really water-saving so many consumers are skeptical when purchasing. Experts believe that the implementation of replacement of old projects to speed up the replacement of sanitary ware, water-saving bathroom industry will usher in greater opportunities for development.

Recently, the National Standards Commission issued a new national standard for water-saving sanitary ware (GB/T 31436-2015). This standard is for water-saving toilets, squatting pans, ceramic sealing spouts, and showers. And other eight commonly used products put forward specific technical requirements. “The use of sanitary ware for water accounts for about 80% of household or domestic water use. The promulgation and implementation of the new standard will save more than 30% of the amount of water used for kitchens and toilets,” said Wang Bo, secretary-general of the National Building Sanitary Ceramic Standardization Technical Committee. What impact will the implementation of the new standards bring to consumers, companies and even the bathroom market?

Save water into selling points to see

In Beijing Shenmeida sanitary ware store in Jimei County, Beijing, Ms. Zhang, who is purchasing a toilet, said, “The toilet in the house is the old one, and the water consumption is too high. I would like to change a new product that saves water.”

From 2014, Beijing's implementation of the water price ladder, adjusted from 4 yuan per cubic meter to one, two, three ladders, respectively 4.95 yuan, 7 yuan, 9 yuan. As the price of water goes up, water-saving sanitary ware products are increasingly favored by consumers. "Now consumers are more aware of the importance of water-saving, and more and more citizens will consider whether to save water when they purchase sanitary ware. When purchasing a toilet, they will almost always ask about the amount of flushing water, preferring the double-button flushing function. Toilet bowl.” Said Shen Luda bathroom sales manager Ning Yuan Park said.

Water saving is the point of view for consumers to buy sanitary products, and is also a selling point for dealers. The reporter walked around the Jimei Furnishings Hall in the Great Hall of the World and found that words such as "super water-saving" and "super-erosion" could be seen everywhere. All merchants will actively introduce water-saving flushing when they sell to consumers.

Before the introduction of the new standard, China’s toilet implements the mandatory national standard “Sanitary Ceramics” (GB 6952-2005). The standard stipulates that the water consumption of ordinary toilets, squatting pans and urinals is 9 liters, 11 liters and 5 litres respectively. The water consumption of toilets, squatting pans and urinals is 6 liters, 8 liters and 3 liters respectively. . Store staff told reporters that most toilets now use double-button water control, which is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

In Jimei's homeworld, the reporter also saw that the toilets sold in all stores are basically water-saving products of 6 liters or less, and the proportion of about 4.5 liters is relatively large. It is understood that the current Dongpeng, TOTO, Hillman and other brands of products have basically universal water-saving toilet.

After the implementation of the new national standard of sanitary ware, whether the price of sanitary ware products has risen or not, Wang Bo said, “Although the new national standard is now introduced, the industry has matured and over the years the industry has also been working toward saving water. There are considerable technological accumulations. Many products of many companies have reached this standard. Our purpose is mainly to save water."

Product quality is uneven

Many bathroom products are affixed with "water-saving" labels, business propaganda is also varied, the price is also very different. The reporter saw two products of the same brand in a store. Although the appearance does not seem to be a big difference, the price is almost one time different. The sales staff explained that the style, ceramic glaze and appearance of different products are different, and the price is naturally different.

In fact, consumers are concerned not only with prices, but also with water conservation and cleanliness. According to the salesperson of the store, water-saving toilets with prices ranging from RMB 1,000 to RMB 2,000 are the most popular among consumers.

A consumer said that he spent more than 2,000 yuan to buy a "new ultra-saving water" toilet. The purchase guide at the time of purchase indicated that the small amount of water for the toilet was 2.6 liters, and the big block was 4.8 liters, which was smaller than the 6 litres of water required by the national standard. Can be found after the actual use, most of the time can not be washed clean, if you have to flush two or three times to clean, water-saving toilets can not be a toilet?

The reporter followed a number of consumers to buy toilets. They basically asked, “Is the amount of water flushed labeled, can I clean it up once?” And for most consumer questions, most businesses only promise verbal promises. Test reports, but none of the merchants can produce test reports or third-party certification reports from authoritative inspection departments.

According to industry sources, at present, the state has not forced companies to apply for water-saving certification, and applications for water-saving certification procedures are complex and costly. Only few companies are willing to apply for certification, which directly leads to the promotion of water-saving products on the market. not tall. Consumers are also skeptical about whether or not the claimed water-saving sanitary products can actually save water.

Industrial development space is huge

Wang Bo introduced that after the implementation of the new national standard of sanitary ware, such as 3 households per household, each person uses 4 times a day to calculate, each household saves 12 liters of water every day, and 300 million households can save 1.3 billion tons of water each year.

It is because of water conservation that the promotion of water-saving appliances products at the policy level is also superimposed. In April of this year, the State Council promulgated the "Water Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan," which stipulates that in the future, products such as toilets and water taps that do not meet water-saving standards will not be produced or sold. This means that non-water saving toilets and spout products will be formally eliminated. At the same time, “Water Ten Article” requires that public buildings must use water-saving appliances to eliminate out-of-water appliances such as water faucets and toilet tanks that do not meet water-saving standards within a time limit.

At the same time, Beijing Municipality issued the "Notice Concerning Collection of Financial Subsidy (Pilot) Providers and Product Catalogs for High-efficiency, Water-Saving Domestic Water Utilities for 2014", which is intended to encourage and promote the use of financial subsidies in Beijing. Domestic households and social water users can use domestic water appliances with water efficiency of level 2 or higher. In addition to Beijing, other provinces and cities across the country have also launched activities to uniformly replace old sanitary ware products. The government has unified subsidies to encourage residents to use water-saving sanitary ware products.

At present, about one-sixth of households and one-seventh of hotels and units in China still use old-fashioned sanitary ware products, which consume more water at one time. According to statistics, there are 80 million sanitary wares in Beijing's urban areas alone, including 200,000 leaks. In addition, in daily life, bathroom water accounts for almost 60% to 70% of the total domestic water consumption. Most of the residents in China use more than 9 liters of sanitary ware flushes to 12 liters, which is 3 times higher than that of foreign countries. The water is far apart and causes a great waste of water resources.

"Implementing the old-for-new-for-news project and accelerating the upgrading of sanitary ware are the urgent and urgent requirements for saving water resources and improving water efficiency," said Wang Bo. Under the vigorous promotion of the government, the bathroom industry will usher in greater opportunities for development.
